Browns' future gets major boost with this confused early Mock Draft

With the fourth pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Jeremiah Smith, wide receiver, The Ohio State University.

That sentence would change the trajectory of an offense and a fanbase almost immediately. The Browns’ offensive weaponry would become Smith, KC Concepcion, Denzel Boston, Isaiah Bond, Harold Fannin, Quinshon Judkins, and Dylan Sampson.

It would be an impressive collection of the best young wide receivers in football, and it is really fun to dream about.

The reality is, unfortunately, somewhere else than this. The timelines for this selection truly don’t match up. If Cleveland is truly selecting that high in the draft, that means they didn’t find their answer at quarterback.

If that does end up as the case, the Browns will be drafting a quarterback early in the draft. In this particular mock draft, quarterbacks went first, second, and third, leaving the Browns with the easiest selection to make in the entire world.

Now, that scenario becomes a bit more realistic after the news that dropped on Monday (6/16) that Brendan Sorsby was heading to the Supplemental Draft after his story reached a breaking point and something had to give.

Why this is important is that if Cleveland does elect to take a chance on him, they could potentially find the diamond in the rough that they were looking for. Maybe Sorsby is drafted by the Browns, serves a suspension, comes out, looks every bit the part, they don’t win, but they show they are competitive. Then and only then would it be a good thing if Cleveland were selecting a wide receiver in the top-5.

It will be a fascinating couple of weeks as people strategize around the Sorsby news. What we know to be a legitimate fact is that Jeremiah Smith to the Browns is highly unlikely. It is more likely that he Smith goes first overall than it is that he is drafted by the Browns, not in the first round.

Regardless, this mock draft is “way too early” for a reason. It’s impossible to speculate, and no one knows exactly how the order or anything is going to pair out. However, it is still fun to think about the addition of Smith and the addition of Oregon EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei to continue to set up the office and fill in the voids left by others.
