Things have gone quiet between the Cincinnati Bengals and disgruntled defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
But as always in the NFL, silence doesn’t mean a lack of action.
Appearing on Pat McAfee’s show, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network updated the contract standoff saga between Hendrickson and the Bengals by saying that talks are ongoing between the two sides recently after the defensive end’s very public interview on the same platform.
“I think that was by design that everything went quiet,” Rapoport said. “He made his point. I think it was received. There has been some communication between the Bengals and Trey Hendrickson since that interview, since the draft, there have been talks.”

Hendrickson appeared on McAfee’s show to express his displeasure with the Bengals organization not all that long ago. But from the sounds of it, even in the wake of the team drafting pass-rusher Shemar Stewart in the first round, contact between the two sides continues.
From an outsider’s perspective, the Bengals continue to have most of the leverage in the standoff given Hendrickson’s age, past threats to hold out and/or retire and having already granted him permission to seek a trade that never happened.
As Rapoport noted, though, the Bengals tend to move slower than most teams in these matters. It’s apparently important to keep in mind, though, that no news can be good news when it comes to Hendrickson.
