Detroit Lions NFL Draft Day 2 live updates, rumors, pick tracker

The Detroit Lions have another big decision to make.

Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft is here, with Rounds 2 and 3 starting off today, Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

The Lions enter the day with one pick in the second round (at No. 50 overall) and none in the third round after trading both 2026 third-round picks during the 2025 draft.

That trade led to the selection of wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa in the third round. But will Lions general manager Brad Holmes make a similar move this year to nab a third-round pick?

The Lions selected Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller with the No. 17 overall pick in the first round on Thursday, April 24, filling a much-needed positional gap on the roster. Miller was a four-year starter at right tackle for the Tigers and is likely to play the same position for the Lions in 2026.

Detroit still has needs at linebacker, defensive end and in the secondary, though it’s unclear which position the team aims to bolster first through the draft. And though Day 2 may be a quiet day for the Lions, Day 3 will come with a flurry of moves as the Lions entered Friday with seven picks in Rounds 4-7.

We’ll have all the Lions live updates, rumors and analysis from Day 2 of the draft right here.

ESPN mock draft has Lions taking edge rusher at No. 50

So, who are the Lions taking in the second round?

In his Day 2 mock draft, ESPN’s Matt Miller has the Lions selecting Missouri edge rusher Zion Young.

“Finding a running mate opposite Aidan Hutchinson has been a priority for Detroit since he was drafted,” he writes. “The Lions would have one in Young, a player who projects as a strong three-down defensive end with the strength to be as good against the run as he is in pass-rush settings.”

Jared Goff’s ‘surreal’ text to Blake Miller

During his introductory press conference, Lions first-round pick Blake Miller said both Penei Sewell and Tate Ratledge reached out to him after his selection, and that the most “surreal” moment for Miller was getting a text message from quarterback Jared Goff.

Blake Miller’s introductory phone call

The Lions posted a video of first-round pick Blake Miller speaking on the phone with general manager Brad Holmes, coach Dan Campbell and owner Sheila Hamp, with Holmes providing the opening statement on Miller’s career.

“You ready to be a Lion?”

The Lions traded both of their 2026 third-rounders, including a compensatory pick for defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn getting hired as the coach of the New York Jets, to trade up for receiver Isaac TeSlaa in the 2025 draft. Detroit also got an extra 2026 sixth-round pick in the deal.

The Lions received their extra fourth-round pick from the trade that sent running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. Detroit got a compensatory pick in the fifth round after offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler left in free agency ahead of the 2025 season.

Detroit got another sixth-round pick in the trade that sent wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Jaguars. Lastly, the Lions got their seventh-round pick from the Cleveland Browns in a 2024 deadline deal that sent pass rusher Za’Darius Smith to Cleveland.
