Fans of James Beard Award-nominated chef Avishar Barua will soon find out his fate on “24 in 24: Last Chef Standing.” The Columbus chef, owner of Joya’s and Agni, is one of six contestants remaining on the Food Network show.
The competitive cooking show began with 24 chefs preparing to embark on 24 challenges filmed over 24 hours. Now, the remaining chefs are in the home stretch. Episode 7, which aired May 24, left Barua in a cliffhanger as he prepared to compete for the final open spot in the finale against Michelin-starred chef Joe Isidori from New York.

Barua, who has competed in several cooking shows in the past (including a winning stint on “Beat Bobby Flay”), has called this one “unhinged.” On May 31, viewers will find out in a double episode whether Barua advances, and the winner of the competition – and its $100,000 prize – will be revealed.
The finale airs at 8 p.m. on Food Network and streams the following day on platforms including HBO Max, Discovery+, and Hulu.
Orale Güey’s Worthington-area opening delayed
After announcing a Memorial Day weekend grand opening for its second location, Mexican restaurant Orale Güey delayed the debut due to two burst pipes. Vritsy Martinez and Irandi Rodriguez, whose families own and operate the restaurant, shared the news and photos of the damage in a social media post. The opening is now scheduled for 11 a.m. May 30 at 1175 Worthington Woods Blvd.
Orale Güey’s Eastmoor restaurant, 3415 E. Broad St., was named a Best New Restaurant of 2025 by Columbus Monthly for its breakfast and lunch fare. The new location will offer all-day service, including a dinner menu.
