Supporting Amy Acton ‘incompatible’ with Catholic teaching.
Re: letter to the editor “How morals conflict in politics,” July 19: I am enthusiastically voting for Vivek Ramaswamy, my fellow Catholic St. Xavier High School alumnus, for governor.
I write in response to my brother George Fisher, who expressed qualms based on our shared faith.
Fisher rightly notes that pro-life means action, not just words. Vivek walks the walk: one of only five gubernatorial candidates endorsed by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. If that endorsement were merely partisan, far more candidates would have it.
Supporting Amy Acton, however, is simply incompatible with Church teaching.
County fairs, homecoming dances and hospital visits were banned, yet Ohio’s abortion clinics stayed open.
This is still the top Catholic issue, where in official guidance our bishops stated, “The threat of abortion remains our pre-eminent priority because it directly attacks our most vulnerable and voiceless brothers and sisters and destroys more than a million lives per year in our country alone.”
On taxes, cutting the income tax would help Ohio reclaim its role as the Midwest’s economic engine, bringing jobs that lift all boats. Ohio’s sales tax already exempts nearly all necessities (food, legal services, rent, medical care and diapers) so the burden doesn’t fall on those still finding their footing.
St. X instructed us to strive for excellence in all things, and now, Vivek’s vision for Ohio would create a state of excellence.

Dating isn’t rocket science
Re: “Politics make dating near impossible. We must be able to find middle ground,” July 19: I think the part Charles Robinson is not understanding is that he supports a political party that causes anxiety or harm to women, minorities, immigrants, LBGTQ+ members, etc.
Why would he be surprised that these same people who feel this anxiety wouldn’t want to form a friendship or romantic relationship with him?

Ramaswamy is desperate
Re: ” I remember what Amy Acton did,” July 16: If one looks at history, whether in this country or another, they will clearly see that “quarantine” is a normal response to any epidemic/pandemic, particularly when the exact outcome such as hospitals running out of room for treatment or how long it will last is not known.
We can all second-guess what anyone does in a situation when we were not there, but you simply don’t allow people to congregate with a virus like COVID-19 spreading like wildfire.
The attempts to discredit Dr. Amy Acton by Vivek Ramaswamy should be taken for what they are – a desperate attempt by a billionaire tech person with absolutely no experience trying to score points with potential voters.
His relationship with the President is well known and his part in DOGE is also problematic. Lastly, voters should remember that the Director of Health works for the Governor-Republican Mike Dewine who has been around for a bit and done a lot for Ohio.
