FREMONT – The third No Kings rally in Fremont continued to get bigger through the two-hour demonstration despite cold temperatures.
“I can’t stand idly by and see our civil rights eroded. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, including immigrants,” demonstrator Angie McGinnis said.
About 179 people showed up to protest President Donald Trump March 28 on the corner of West State Street and North Front Street.
Nationally, there were more than 3,000 No Kings protests. This one was hosted by Indivisible Sandusky County, People For Peace and Justice and Fremont 50501.
Local organizer Robert Noftz was pleased by the turnout as Port Clinton, Tiffin, Norfolk and Bellevue also held events.
“I want our president to work within the democratic system, not to be a dictator,” demonstrator Sue Rimelspach said.
Others who attended protested the war with Iran, Trump’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein and the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Several vehicles with people opposed to the protest drove by, some shouting and some with pro-Trump messages on their vehicles. However, the day was peaceful, despite some being offended by protester outfits and signs comparing Trump to Hitler.
Other activities, like a voter registration table, were popular among the demonstrators.
