An alleged gang member already jailed in connection with a separate investigation has now been charged in a fatal shooting at an Akron bar last spring, according to a statement from the Akron Police Department.
Police officers originally responded April 13, 2025, to reports of a shooting at a bar in the 1300 block of Brittain Road. When officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Aharon Pittman Sr. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the shooting followed an altercation inside the bar. Authorities said an unidentified male suspect fired multiple shots before fleeing.
After months of investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Ronald Jones, also known as “Ron Don,” as the suspect in the homicide. Jones has been charged with murder, carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons while under disability.
Jones was arrested last week in connection with a separate investigation into alleged gang activity. He faces an additional charge of participating in the “Down the Way” (DTW) gang and is being held in the Summit County Jail on a $2 million bond.
Police said the charges reflect the department’s continued efforts to solve violent crimes in the city.
“Our detectives are committed to investigating every single homicide in our city,” Akron Police Captain Brian Harding said in a statement. “These cases take time and patience.”
Authorities have not released additional details about the altercation or a possible motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
