The University of Akron men’s basketball program has added Colin White from the NCAA transfer portal.

White is a 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard/forward who will be a junior entering the 2026-27 season after playing his first two seasons at Ohio State.

White played in 29 games this season past with one start, 25 points, 29 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals and two blocks in 255 minutes as the Buckeyes advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

White dealt with injuries during his time at Ohio State. His two-year totals are 48 games, one start, 46 points, 49 rebounds, 18 assists, 13 steals and five blocks in 407 minutes.

This is the third year in a row the Akron men’s basketball team has added a transfer from Ohio State as White follows former Buckeyes players Bowen Hardman and Evan Mahaffey, who played two seasons and one season, respectively, for the Zips.

Akron has played in the NCAA Tournament in four of the past five years after winning Mid-American Conference Tournament championships in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026 under John Groce, who left to become the College of Charleston coach last month.

White was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball in 2024 and was a top 125 recruit nationally in his senior class. He led Ottawa-Glandorf High School to back-to-back Division III state runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2023 when he was a sophomore and junior. O-G was also a Division III state semifinalist in 2021 and 2024 when he was a freshman and senior.

White was an All-Ohio first-team selection as a junior and senior, and joined LeBron James as the only high school players in Ohio to start on a state final four team four consecutive seasons.

White was the first player in Ottawa-Glandorf boys basketball history to score over 2,000 career points. He averaged 25.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.6 steals as a senior, and was named the Division III Northwest Ohio Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 20.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
