I read with interest the article about the argument that gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton had with her husband “over the extended work hours” when she was director of the Ohio Department of Health during the COVID-19 epidemic. It made me think back to the time when I was in practice and how many times I had to work after an exhausting night on call or a particularly long day at the office or hospital.
I remember the few times my strong yet very patient wife got upset and mad at me for missing dinner with the family “again” or for not being there when one of my boys needed discipline. It made me think of the serious issue of physician burnout, which is rightly being addressed now after being ignored for so long.
Instead of seeing an argument between a wife and husband over long work hours as an opportunity for the failing Vivek Ramaswamy campaign, I see this as another example of Dr. Acton’s resiliency and another reason why she will be a great governor for Ohio.
