Airship enthusiasts to dine in Wingfoot Lake hangar

The Lighter-Than-Air Society will have its 71st annual banquet and silent auction Sept. 27 inside Goodyear’s Wingfoot Lake hangar in Suffield Township.

The doors will open at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. at 841 Wingfoot Lake Road. The event, open to the public, will be a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. blimps. A crew member will discuss the history of the advertising icons.

If everything goes according to plan, the group will dine under the Wingfoot One, although that is not guaranteed because the airship can be called into service on short notice.

Items for sale in the silent auction include a blimp ride for two, a golf outing for three and a girder from the Goodyear-Zeppelin era of the 1930s.

The buffet dinner will include chicken and beef entrees, potatoes, vegetables, roll and butter, coffee, tea, water or soda. A vegetarian entrée is available by request.

Tickets are $65. The event is limited to the first 100 people who make reservations athttps://www.blimpinfo.com/. The society welcomes new members.
