As of 4:15 p.m., all police have cleared the scene at Summit Mall, which was evacuated Friday, May 8 after a reported shooting outside of the mall.
Beacon Journal news partner News 5 said that just after 3 p.m., Akron police responded to assist Fairlawn police and mall security after receiving reports of a shooting.
Akron police Lt. Michael Murphy Jr. told News 5 there are no victims. A male has been detained.
Officers from the Fairlawn, Copley and Akron police departments, as well as from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene. According to police scanner traffic, Akron police conducted a sweep of the mall.
Several shoppers who were leaving the mall about 3:30 p.m. Friday said they heard one gunshot.
After the evacuation, police were seen checking the parking lot for evidence.
Police are diverting traffic away from the mall as of late Friday afternoon.
Fairlawn Police said all officers are still investigating the incident and that no information is being released at this time.
