Marissa L. Burke, 39, of Beekman, was hit by a car and died after disembarking a Dutchess County LOOP bus on State Route 55, near Gardner Hollow Road in the Town of Beekman.
The fatal car-pedestrian crash, which occurred on Feb. 5 at 11:45 a.m., is currently under investigation, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
From its preliminary investigation, it was revealed Burke was crossing Route 55 after getting off the bus and was struck by a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee going westbound. The bus was not a part of the crash.
After being transferred to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, she was pronounced dead.
Route 55 was closed for approximately 3 hours due to the investigation.
The sole occupant and operator of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, who has not been named at this time, was not injured as a result of the crash.
According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the primary factor in the crash appears to be Burke’s failure to yield, and at present, no charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit.
