New York’s 25th Congressional District
Despite a challenge from a pair of candidates, U.S. Congressman Joe Morelle showed he’s still plenty powerful in the greater Rochester area, scoring a Democratic primary victory over a pair of challengers, Robin Wilt and Sherita Traywick.
The drama didn’t last long for Morelle, who more than doubled the total votes for Wilt in New York’s 25th Congressional District.
New York’s 24th Congressional District
In the other Rochester-area Democratic congressional primary race, Alissa Ellman has positioned herself to face off against incumbent U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney in New York’s 24th Congressional District. Ellman led Diana Kastenbaum, 9,911 to 6,107 on primary election night.
137th Assembly District
Another incumbent, state Assemblymember Demond Meeks, coasted to a primary victory over challenger Mercedes Vazquez-Simmons in the Democratic primary for the state Assembly’s 137th district. Meeks won more than four times the votes Vazquez-Simmons received, 4,676 to 1,065.
Currently serving his third full term, Meeks first took office in November 2020, in the seat previously held by the late David Gantt.
130th Assembly District
The race for the 130th Assembly District saw a pair of primaries, Democratic and Republican, to narrow the field from five candidates to two.
Republican George Dobbins emerged with the lead from the three-way primary race in election night results, with 2,087 votes. Summer Johnson was second, with 1,743 votes, and Mark Johns was third, with 1,478 votes.
In the Democratic primary, Carl Fitzsimmons held a narrow lead over Joseph Lamanna, with 2,081 votes to 2,032 votes.

Fairport Mayor and Trustees
In Fairport, the primary race between two village board members ended with Heidi Woika as the narrow winner over Tracy Briggs. Woika is the current deputy mayor in the village, positioning herself to replace the outgoing Mayor Julie Domaratz. Woika received 366 votes to Briggs’s 308.
The incumbent village trustees in Fairport, Adam Bonosky and Sarah Nazarian, held off a challenge from Joseph Thon to receive the Democratic nominations in their race. Nazarian was the top vote-getter with 469 votes, ahead of Bonosky’s 429 and Thon’s 283.
