There are many things that represent Halloween, like black cats, pumpkins, trick-or-treating, and full moons.
Though the full moon is a common Halloween symbol, having a true full moon on Oct. 31 is not so common. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says a Halloween full moon only occurs every 18-19 years.
Will the Binghamton area see a full moon on Halloween in 2025? Here’s what to know, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Will there be a full moon on Oct. 31, 2025?
No, there will not be a full moon on Halloween in 2025.
However, the almanac’s Moon Phases and Lunar Calendar shows the Binghamton area will see a waxing gibbous moon on the holiday, with 70.3% of the moon illuminated. Therefore, the moon should be quite vibrant for those who want to look up.
When was the last time there was a full moon on Halloween?
The last time there was a full moon on Halloween was in 2020, the almanac says. Since a Halloween full moon only occurs every 18-19 years, there won’t be another one until at least 2038.
When is the next full moon?
The next full moon will occur on Nov. 5, according to the almanac, and is known as the Full Beaver Moon.
This full moon is also the second of three “supermoons” in a row, which are caused by the shape of the moon’s orbit. In order for it to be a “supermoon,” the moon must be at least 90% of the way to its closest point to Earth at the same time that it is in its “full” phase.
The first “supermoon” of 2025 occurred on Oct. 6 and the last will occur on Dec. 4.
November’s full moon is known as the “Beaver Moon,” as it occurs at the same time beavers are busy “finalizing their lodges,” the almanac says; however, it also has alternative names including the “Deer Rutting Moon” and the “Panther Moon.”
