Election Day is nearly here. Polls open Tuesday, and we’ve got the details you need on opening hours, key reminders, and tips for making the most of your voting experience.
When do polls open on Election Day in New York?
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
How to find your poll site in New York?
The New York State Board of Elections has a tool to locate your polling place on its website. You will need to enter your name, five-digit zip code, date of birth and county of residence. The tool will show you where you must go to vote on Election Day. It also lists early voting sites within your county, but note that the early voting period ended on Sunday.
Can you vote in another NY polling place?
Not on Election Day. Voters must go to their designated polling site to cast an in-person ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 4. During early voting, registered voters could cast a ballot at any designated early voting site within their home county. The early voting period ended on Sunday, Nov. 2.
What do you need to vote in New York?
You do not need identification or a card from the Board of Elections in order to vote on Election Day. Bring your driver’s license with you, however, in case election inspectors need to verify your identification if your signature is not on file or to verify a name change.
Can I vote by mail or by absentee ballot?
The deadline to apply online for an early mail or absentee ballot was Oct. 25. However, registered voters can also request an absentee ballot in person at their county Board of Elections by the end of the business day on Monday, Nov. 3. For more information on requesting a ballot go to https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot.
Can you drop off absentee ballots at a NY polling place?
Yes. You can bring your completed and sealed absentee ballot to a poll site in your county by 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Completed absentee ballots may also be dropped off at your County Board of Elections Office by 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
When are absentee ballots due in NY?
Tuesday, Nov. 4. Mailed ballots must receive a postmark that’s no later than Nov. 4. and the ballot must be received by Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Can I register to vote on Election Day in NY?
No. New York does not offer same-day voter registration on Election Day.
