Westchester County's Bicycle Sundays kicks off its 52nd season

On a brisk but sunny morning May 3, dozens of cyclists made their way along the Bronx River Parkway as Westchester County kicked off its 52nd season of Bicycle Sundays.

On Sunday mornings through the summer and through the first weekend of October, a 6.5-mile stretch of the Bronx River Parkway will be closed to cars from the Westchester County Center to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers.

Sunday’s opening day started with a brief ceremony near the Westchester County Center in White Plains with Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins and parks commissioner Kathy O’Connor. Cyclists then hopped on the parkway from White Plains as well as from entry points along the parkway.

Hours for Bicycle Sundays are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in May, August, September and October, and from 8 a.m. to noon in June and July.
