Westchester County is looking to the future when it comes to its airport. In May, County Executive Ken Jenkins announced the county’s intent to issue a Request for Proposals to modernize the airport, which the county called a “commitment to improving the airport experience for travelers.”
“To offer a seat, a cup of coffee, and a bathroom,” Jenkins said. “We are putting people first.”
A spokesperson for the county told The Journal News/lohud on Monday, July 21, it was in the process of finalizing the content of the RFP, and aims to release it mid-August.
In 2024, Westchester County expanded seating in the terminal by opening up corridors in the building for the installation of seats for travelers waiting for their flights.
Nick Hartman, who chairs the county’s Airport Advisory Board, said travelers have complained about conditions there.
“They’ve received feedback to improve the passenger experience in the terminal,” he said. “The crowding in the terminal has been a topic of discussion.”
Westchester County Airport named one of America’s ‘most punctual’
From sought-after destinations at great fares, to a stellar record for on-time arrivals and departures, Westchester County Airport (HPN) is a first-choice option for many in the Lower Hudson Valley.
The airport was recognized as one of the most punctual airports in the United States, according to data from KAYAK.com.
“(HPN) has an average rate of delayed flights below 20% of all departures, which is significantly lower than most of the country’s analyzed 100 most-searched departure airports,” a spokesperson for KAYAK told The Journal News.
