Weekend weather: Rain through Saturday in Lower Hudson Valley, including thunderstorms

The National Weather Service is predicting consistent rain in the Lower Hudson Valley from afternoon Friday, May 30, to Saturday evening, with possible intense thunderstorms Friday evening.

Friday morning began with patchy fog and cloudy conditions, but the National Weather Service says clouds will gradually clear to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon with a high of 75 degrees.

A chance of showers is likely Friday during the day, but rain is expected to start falling in full force, including possible thunderstorms, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Temperatures could drop to around 57 degrees.

Rain showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue overnight Friday until around 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms should end by 8 a.m., but showers will remain through the afternoon. Temperatures could reach up to 70 degrees and it should be humid during the day.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain could return after 2 p.m. Saturday, bringing the potential weekend rainfall totals to around 1 inch in the Lower Hudson Valley.

A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms remains likely Saturday evening, as temperatures drop to around 49 degrees.

Not all hope is lost for start-of-summer plans as the sun is expected to shine on Sunday, with high temperatures near 67 degrees. Sunny skies should continue Monday as well, with temperatures rising to around 73 degrees.
