The Hilton East Assisted Living Facility evacuated its residents from the building due to a water leak causing ceiling problems Dec. 28 in the evening.
According to the Hilton-Parma Fire District, the Hilton Fire Department was sent out around 10:30 p.m. to the facility to investigate a reported water leak. When crews arrived they encountered significant water leaks affecting more than two dozen apartments on the first and second floors. Water was found to be infiltrating critical building components.
At 11:15 p.m. the decision was made to evacuate the building. The Hilton East staff, the Department of Health and first responders assisted in the evacuation.
The Hilton Central School District assisted by allowing residents to relocate to Quest Elementary School on West Avenue. Buses from the HCSD Transportation Department provided resident transport.
131 residents relocated to Quest Elementary overnight
The Spencerport Fire District, Monroe Ambulance, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Fire Bureau, and the Office of Emergency Management helped evacuate all 131 residents safely to Quest Elementary without incident. The Village of Hilton Fire Marshal also assisted with the entire process.
Evacuation was completed by 3:00 a.m and Monroe Ambulance remained on scene to ensure all residents were cared for.
The building was turned back over to the property owner to continue remediation efforts shortly after 4 a.m.
