With 59% of the total vote share, Pine Plains track & field’s Madison Williams won the Poughkeepsie Journal Girls Athlete of the Week poll for May 25-31.
The Poughkeepsie Journal Girls Athlete of the Week for June 1-7 is now live.
Nominations are based on information gathered and received by the Poughkeepsie Journal throughout the week. For consideration, coaches are asked to submit game information and player stats to Edecker@usatodayco.com before the end of the week.
Each week’s winner will be selected and posted in the upcoming week’s poll. Polls will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night before the announcement the following morning.
Laila Reuben, FDR track & field
Reuben won the 1A girls 400-meter hurdles at the Section 9 State Qualifier with a time of 1:04.87.
Violet Bliss, Pine Plains track & field
Bliss won the 1500-meter run at the Section 9 State Qualifier with a time of 4:40.78.
Talia Durant, Pine Plains softball
Durant tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 batters in a 4-1 victory over Tuckahoe to secure a Class C regional championship.
Angela Schwer, John Jay track & field
Schwer won the 1A girls Pentathlon at the Section 1 State Qualifier.
