Utica Police investigating fatal shooting, seeking public assistance

The Utica Police Department is asking for assistance as they investigate a shooting that left one person dead.

At around 12:25 p.m. on Dec. 18, the Utica Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to 1016 Steuben St regarding a male who had suffered a gunshot wound.

Personnel arrived on scene and were immediately directed to the entryway of the residence where they located a man who had been shot in the head.

The unnamed male victim was immediately transported to Wynn Hospital for emergency treatment, however he passed away due to his injuries, according to police

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time, and we are offering any assistance possible,” Utica police officials said in a statement. “The name of the deceased will be released pending family approval.”

According to Utica police, following an investigation, it was determined that an argument ensued between two parties inside of the residence and, during the argument, a handgun was discharged with the round striking the unnamed male victim.

Utica Police officials said they are evaluating all possible physical, forensic, and biological evidence to assist in determining what took place.
