This summer has been a season of big changes for the Westchester dining scene with 11 restaurant closures since June. Now there are two more — along with the pivot of a local food truck. Details follow.
Invito Restaurant, Elmsford
Invito, a Mexican restaurant with a speakeasy hidden behind it, has closed. The nearly three-year-old eatery, which opened in December 2023, had its last day July 26th. On social media, the owners thanked everyone who dined with them, celebrated milestones, shared laughter and became part of their family.
On the plus side, for those venturing to Long Island anytime soon, they’re opening Tona Cocktail Bar July 31 at 1202 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square.
The Tav’ery, Bronxville
The Tav’ery, with the motto “Drink, Eat, Gather,” is gathering one last time — on Aug. 2 — to celebrate its final day of business. This modern take on the Irish-style pub, with tacos, salads, burgers, wings and flatbreads, opened in 2023 with new ownership taking over last November. 131 Parkway Road, Bronxville, 914-793-3431, thetavery.com.
Gyro Uno Food Truck
Gyro Uno, which has served tens of thousands of customers throughout the Lower Hudson since 2016, is shifting its focus. Come the end of July, they’re pivoting to drop-off catering, family-style trays, individual meals, corporate lunches, private gatherings, and their Founder’s Reserve sauces and seasonings.
While owners Mishel and Matt Spiri say it’s bittersweet to retire the truck it’s by no means the end of their company. “This isn’t goodbye,” they stress. “It’s a new way to serve you.”
For those who are interested, their truck is for sale.
