Studs and duds from New York Giants' Week 4 win over Los Angeles Chargers

The winless New York Giants came to play on Sunday, facing the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium. The result was finally a positive one for Big Blue.

With rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart under center for the first time, the Giants found a way to get things done despite the loss of superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers.

Here’s a look at some of the studs and duds (and those in between) from the Giants’ 21-18 Week 4 victory over the Chargers.

Stud: RB Cam Skattebo

The rookie set the tone again with his physical style. Cam Skattebo rushed for 79 yards on 25 attempts and punched in a two-point conversion. His presence elevated the Giants again and gave them some much-needed swagger.

Dud: WR Malik Nabers*

It’s not Malik Nabers’ fault he’s a dud here. The star wideout left the game in the first half with a knee injury suffered attempting to reel in a Jaxson Dart pass that wouldn’t have counted anyway due to a penalty. He was carted off the field and is feared to have a torn ACL. The real culprit here is likely the MetLife turf*, which has claimed many a victim over the years.

Stud: QB Jaxson Dart

Not a bad first start for Jaxson Dart, who appeared to play through some hamstring discomfort. His stats weren’t great (13-of-20 for 111 yards with one touchdown, no interceptions, 54 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown), but they were good enough.

Dud: WR Wan’Dale Robinson

Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson could have put the game away on a fourth-down pass in the end zone from Dart in the fourth quarter. But he could not reel it in and let Chargers safety Alohi Gilman strip it away from him. Robinson also had just three receptions for 14 yards on five targets in the game. With Nabers out, he needed to step up.

Stud: CB Dru Phillips

Cornerback Dru Phillips had four passes defensed, including an interception with a 56-yard return. He is certainly playing up to his third-round draft status. The Giants’ secondary only allowed one pass play over 20 yards in the entire game.

Stud: Brian Burns, pass rush

Linebacker Brian Burns led an active pass rush with five total stops, highlighted by a huge sack of Justin Herbert on third down in the fourth quarter. Kayvon Thibodeaux also had three QB hits and a sack. Rookie Abdul Carter had five QB hits, and nose tackle Dexter Lawrence had a tackle for a loss and an interception that he almost ran in for a touchdown.
