ORONO, Maine – The Binghamton softball team has begun to get familiar with the feel of the America East conference trophy.
The Bearcats secured the conference title for the second year in a row, beating UMass Lowell in two games to secure an NCAA Tournament berth at powerhouse Oklahoma.
A stunning, eight-run sixth-inning rally in Game 1, after a 7-0 deficit through four innings, brought the Bearcats back to playoff posture and sparked the offensive prowess that put Game 1 at 10-8, and a consistent defense that put Game 2 at 4-2 on Saturday, May 9.
The all-tournament team, spearheaded by America East’s Player of the Year Rachel Carey, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the series after batting .471 with eight hits and 12 RBIs, also included Delaney Glover (P), Olivia Kennedy (P) and Lauren Payne (1B/DP).
Binghamton (20-25) will try to prove its offensive tenacity as they meet Oklahoma (48-8-0) in the double-elimination Norman Regional bracket of the NCAA Tournament, slated to begin at 3:30 PM ET on Friday, May 15 (SEC Network).
