Daniel “Finn” Schweizer was praised as an athlete who brought out the best in everyone on his teams while going all out to deliver the best version of himself in all three sports he played at Elmira Notre Dame.
Schweizer has been selected as Elmira Star-Gazette/Corning Leader Male Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 school year, which saw him earn all-star honors in soccer, basketball and lacrosse.
“He’s a guy that you want to be around and I think he’s a guy that does whatever it takes to win,” said Nick Weiermiller, who coached Schweizer for four seasons on END’s varsity boys basketball team.
“I think that’s one of the best qualities in an athlete, when you’re willing to do whatever it takes to win, you’re a fun guy to be around, you’re a leader. You’re going to do well in whatever you do.”
Schweizer has committed to play lacrosse at Division III Connecticut College after one of the most prolific scoring careers in Section 4 history.
He ended up with 413 points in five seasons as a starter with Notre Dame and the combined Notre Dame/Watkins Glen team. His senior season for END/WG included 70 goals and 48 assists for 118 points. Schweizer was chosen by coaches as a Section 4 first-team all-star for the fourth time.
During a ceremony celebrating his college signing, Schweizer focused on those around him rather than his own accomplishments.
“I’m just really happy and thankful for all them,” he said of his teammates and coaches.
Schweizer started the school year by earning Interscholastic Athletic Conference South Large School Division Most Valuable Player honors in boys soccer. He helped the Crusaders win the division title.
During the winter, he was a defensive and rebounding force who had the ability to come up with timely hoops. Schweizer was named an IAC South Large School second-team all-star and helped Notre Dame capture the Section 4 Class C title and advance to the state quarterfinals.
“He brought a toughness to us, especially with rebounding and keeping balls alive,” Weiermiller said. “Defensively he was strong down low, he was able to contest shots. Finn played four years for me on varsity, so he’s been huge to our program.”
