Slimmed-down Tyler Nubin ready to add 'explosiveness' to Giants defense

The New York Giants selected safety Tyler Nubin with the 47th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Nubin performed at a high level throughout his rookie season in New York. However, an ankle injury in Week 14 of the 2024 season contributed to an underwhelming sophomore year, as the high-ankle sprain required “tightrope” surgery in January 2025.

Nubin also suffered a season-ending neck injury late in the 2025 campaign. The former Minnesota standout now appears fully healthy and poised for a strong bounce-back in 2026.

While speaking with Giants Wire at Brian Burns’ charity softball game, Nubin discussed where he feels he has improved most this offseason.

“I’d say really my explosiveness,” he said. “I feel like I’ve slimmed down a little bit, lost some weight. So I’m moving a little better. I feel good coming off surgery last year. But definitely my explosiveness and quickness.”

Through his first two seasons with the Giants, Nubin has recorded 176 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. The talented safety is still just 24 years old and could quickly reestablish himself as a key contributor in 2026 if he remains healthy.

Nubin is expected to enter training camp this summer with a significant chip on his shoulder following last year’s disappointing finish. He appears poised to shine in his third season with the Giants.
