Bishop Kearney graduate Nate Carter, a long shot to make it, earned a spot in the National Football League last year.
Carter, a running back with the Atlanta Falcons, says others can follow his path into any profession.
This belief is the inspiration for his Nate Carter Football Camp ’26 at Kearney. The theme of the camp, free for girls and boys in first through eighth grade, is “More Than.”
“They are more than their sport, more than their successes and failures,” Carter said.
Carter said that belief extends beyond sports, including how people view income and success. According to Carter, life is about “living out your calling, fulfilling your purpose.”
This is the second camp Carter has attached his name to. The first took place in May 2024 that included 30 to 40 children at Eastridge. More than 100 have signed up this year, Carter said, for the camp from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 6. Registration information can be found at ChaseYourLegend.com.
“I want to pour into the young men and women of Rochester,” Carter, 24, said. “I was in their shoes.”
Coaches in Section V selected Carter, a standout at a small private school, to the 2019 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Football Team.
Carter had success playing with the struggling University of Connecticut Huskies, then transferred to Michigan State in the Big Ten Conference. The Falcons signed Carter in 2025 as an undrafted free agent and he overcame long odds when he remained with the team at the end of training camp.
