Rain, thunderstorms possible this week in NYC, Hudson Valley

A rainy stretch is ahead for New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley, with the National Weather Service warning of the potential for severe thunderstorms Tuesday.

Rain chances are expected across downstate New York from Monday through Thursday, with another chance of showers Sunday. Friday and Saturday are expected to bring a break from the unsettled weather, with mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for outdoor plans.

Monday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 83 degrees.

There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Overnight, skies will become mostly cloudy, with a low around 70 degrees.

Tuesday

A potentially stormy day is expected.

Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 79 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the morning, followed by likely showers and possible thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Winds will range from 5 to 14 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

More than an inch of rain is possible, with some flooding concerns.

Overnight, showers and a thunderstorm remain possible. Temperatures will fall to around 69 degrees, with winds of 7 to 10 mph and gusts up to 28 mph.

Wednesday

Showers are likely throughout the day, with a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

High temperatures will reach around 79 degrees.

Overnight, showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected before 2 a.m., followed by additional showers into Thursday morning. Low temperatures will fall to around 67 degrees.

More than an inch of rain is possible, with localized flooding concerns.

Thursday

Partly sunny, with a high near 78 degrees.

There is a 50% chance of showers throughout the day.

Overnight, skies will be mostly cloudy, with lows around 67 degrees.

Friday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 83 degrees.

Overnight, partly cloudy skies are expected, with temperatures falling to around 69 degrees.

Saturday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 85 degrees.

Overnight, skies will become mostly cloudy, with lows around 71 degrees.

Sunday

Partly sunny, with another chance of showers.

High temperatures will be near 71 degrees.
