President Donald Trump addressed the backlash faced by New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart after the second-year standout introduced him at a recent political rally.
In a preview clip from an upcoming interview on FOX News Channel’s My View with Lara Trump, Trump praised the young signal-caller while downplaying the criticism.
“Well, first of all, I wish I looked just like Jaxson. He’s this guy. I said, ‘Is he a male model or what?'” Trump said. “He had just really started. But when he’s in a game, he moves the team. And I didn’t know him, but I watched him a little bit. And he really moves the team. He’s got tremendous potential. (If) he stays healthy, he’s going to be a great.”
The president suggested the controversy would ultimately benefit Dart, stating that while he faces some harassment, he’ll be “loved more” by others.
Trump also expressed surprise at the strong reactions, claiming that even some of his vocal critics privately support him.
Dart’s appearance with Trump has sparked discussion within the Giants organization, with the team reportedly viewing his brief involvement as a “misstep.”
Teammates and coaches are expected to face questions during Friday’s open media session as the team works to move forward following Dart’s internal address to the locker room.
