Powerball climbs to one of the biggest jackpots in history: See the eye-popping number

The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $1.8 billion after no one won the jackpot’s top prize in the Sept. 3 drawing. According to lottery officials, the jackpot is now the second-largest in the game’s history.

While the jackpot was not claimed, a total of 15 tickets matched all five white balls. Eleven of those each won a $1 million prize. The $1 million-winning tickets were sold in California (2), Colorado, Florida, Georgia (2), Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to Powerball.

The other four tickets increased their winnings to $2 million, by purchasing the Power Play option, according to lottery officials. The $2 million-winning tickets were sold in Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming, according to Powerball.

The jackpot has estimated cash value of $826.4 million before taxes.

When is next Powerball drawing?

The next drawing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 11 p.m. ET, marking the 42nd drawing since the last jackpot was won on May 31, 2025, in California. The current streak is now the game record for the most consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. The previous record stood at 41 drawings.

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. If no one hits the jackpot, the prize continues to grow.

How much is a Powerball ticket?

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available in 45 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Players can choose numbers manually or opt for a “Quick Pick.” Adding the $1 Power Play option increases non-jackpot winnings.
