The National Weather Service says the rest of the week will stay sunny, bright and dry until Friday, July 25, in the Lower Hudson Valley, with potential for extreme heat during the week.
Wednesday, July 23, is predicted to be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 85 degrees. Overnight, conditions will be dry and clear with low temperatures near 67 degrees.
Heat index will make things feel hotter in Lower Hudson Valley
By Thursday, the National Weather Service warns that temperatures could feel hot and humid, possibly contributing to increased factors of heat illness. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees, with heat index values possibly reaching 100 degrees.
On Friday, temperatures are expected to reach 96 degrees and heat index values may reach up to 105 degrees. However, Friday is also expected to bring a 30% chance of thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., then showers into the late-night hours.
A forecast hazard map issued by the NWS on Wednesday shows much of downstate New York at a significant to extreme risk for extreme heat Friday and Friday night. Such a risk carries the potential for “dangerously hot conditions” that could “quickly result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.”
Saturday could look similar to Thursday, with high temps near 88 degrees but heat index levels possibly reaching 100. Showers are also expected Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
