NY grocery store food safety inspections. Check new Whole Foods grades

Grocery store food safety inspection results released in 2026 provide an updated look at grades issued for Whole Foods locations in New York.

The inspection grades are part of USA TODAY Network’s ongoing series exploring food safety inspections at the thousands of grocery stores, food warehouses, delis and related facilities spread across the state. That includes a new searchable database at data.lohud.com that allows New Yorkers to check inspection results and details for every grocery store statewide.

What to know about Whole Foods grocery inspection results in NY?

Whole Foods grocery stores received mostly A’s during food safety inspections between January 2024 and January 2026, with that top food safety grade accounting for 60, or nearly 55%, of all inspection results, data show.

But in New York, anything less than an A is considered a failing grade, and Whole Foods saw a total of 50 such citations during the same time period. Inspectors can issue multiple safety grade citations during a single visit.

Whole Foods has addressed concerns raised by inspectors from the state Department of Agriculture and Markets by, among other things, training employees on food safety protocols and immediately removing and destroying affected products, USA TODAY Network reported.

“Food safety is our top priority at Whole Foods Market, and we take these inspection results very seriously,” the company said in a statement, noting its internal staff takes immediate corrective actions following each inspection and continues with daily preventative measures to maintain its high food safety standards.

The USA TODAY Network has been poring through state inspection data for grocery stores, food warehouses, delis and bodegas for insights into New York’s food inspection process. Inspectors say roughly one of every four sites receive failing grades of a B or C every year.
