Protesters will target Trump administration policies at a “No Kings” demonstration in Wellsville on June 14.
Rise Up Wellsville and the Allegany County Democratic Committee are hosting the rally, which is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. at the Fassett Greenspace, 55 N. Main St.
Protest organizers are calling for a peaceful demonstration in Wellsville, with chants, marching, music and signs.
After gathering at the greenspace, demonstrators who wish to will march to a banner raising at the state Route 417 overpass.
The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution will be read aloud at 3 p.m.
Participants are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food for a collection that will be turned over to the Rushford Food Pantry.
Rally organizers discouraged “hateful rhetoric or nasty signs,” saying they want to focus “on maintaining our precious democracy and the rule of law. No clowns. No kings.”
Other No Kings protests are planned across the region in Geneseo, Leicester, Lima, Horseheads, Naples, Rochester, Buffalo, Canandaigua and Olean in New York state, along with Coudersport, Bradford and Sayre in Pennsylvania.
Overall, protests are planned for 1,800 communities across the country Saturday, the same day President Donald Trump holds a military parade in Washington.
No Kings Day was organized in cities and towns of all sizes to coincide with the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration, which is also Trump’s 79th birthday and Flag Day.
Administration officials insist it is a coincidence that the parade falls on Trump’s birthday.
The $30 million-plus taxpayer-funded parade is set to include heavy tanks, armored vehicles and vehicles towing artillery launchers.
