In a gruesome scene at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a severe ankle injury that left every single player and coach on one knee.
With 8:11 remaining in the second quarter, Skattebo attempted to haul in a second-down pass from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. He landed awkwardly and had an Eagles defender on the back of his legs, and the result was stomach-churning.
When the dust settled, Skattebo’s foot was facing in the wrong direction. The reaction of those on the field told the story, as FOX opted not to air the replay.
The emotion shown by Dart also spoke volumes.
Trainers rushed out to Skattebo and quickly put him in an air cast before loading him onto the cart. He attempted to motivate his teammates with the typical Skattebo emotion, but the scene was dire.
As the cart took Skattebo to the locker room, Eagles fans gave him a standing ovation.
Skattebo was taken to a local hospital with a dislocated ankle (and potentially more).
