New York Giants make 36 transactions to set initial 53-man roster

The New York Giants wrapped up the preseason on Thursday night with a 42-10 shellacking of the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

With the win, the Giants ended the regular season with a perfect record of 3-0, scoring 30-plus points in three straight exhibition games for the first time in franchise history. They also became one of just eight teams to outscore their opponents by 60-plus points since 2009.

That was the fun part. Now comes the not-so-fun part.

The Giants have until Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET to trim their roster to 53 players. With 89 players on their active roster, that means 36 players must be waived, cut, released, or placed given a designation (PUP, NFI, IR).

Our Giants Wire team will provide live coverage throughout the day of the Giants’ cuts and moves. Check out every roster move below:

Here’s a list of every Giants roster cut and move

DL Jeremiah Ledbetter

One of the final cuts of the day (which is of little consequence), Jeremiah Ledbetter got sent on his way. (link)

OL Stone Forsythe

Although the Giants opted to keep 10 offensive linemen on the initial 53-man roster, Stone Forsythe was not one of them. (link)

DL Jordon Riley

Defensive lineman Jordon Riley never really made a significant push for a roster spot this offseason and lost out to some newly signed players. (link)

WR Dalen Cambre

Undrafted rookie wide receiver Dalen Cambre made a push for the 53-man roster but at the wire, was waived. He is a candidate for the practice squad. (link)

OL Joshua Ezeudu to IR

After a solid summer, offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu got banged up and missed time down the stretch. He will land on injured reserve (IR) and miss the first four games of the regular season. (link)

K Jude McAtamney an IPP exemption

Kicker Jude McAtamney was never really close to unseating veteran Graham Gano, and he will return to the practice squad on an International Player Pathway program roster exemption after first being cut. That exemption allows the Giants to carry 17 total practice squad players. (link)

LB Victor Dimukeje to reserve/PUP

Linebacker Victor Dimukeje, an offseason signing, suffered a torn pectoral muscle while working out in May. He was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list, and he will land on the PUP list for quite a while as he recovers. He must miss a minimum of four games but isn’t likely to return until late in the season, if at all. (link)

RB Eric Gray to reserve/PUP

Running back Eric Gray spent the entire summer on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and that’s where he’ll remain. While on the inactive/PUP list, Gray must miss the first four weeks of the regular season. (link)

WR Juice Wells Jr.

An undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss, who caught passes from Jaxson Dart, Juice Wells Jr. finished the preseason strong, but like many others, got caught up in a numbers game. (link)

WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette

At one point in time, wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette seemed like a roster lock. He was the team’s highly praised return specialist, but the re-signing of Gunner Olszewski threw a wrench into the situation. A tough cut. (link)

OL Bryan Hudson

Although he only saw limited action, offensive lineman Bryan Hudson was the Giants’ highest-graded player throughout the preseason, via Pro Football Focus. (link)

DL Elijah Garcia

Defensive lineman Elijah Garcia played relatively well for the Giants after joining them late last season and was solid throughout the summer. But it wasn’t enough to crack the 53-man roster and surpass other talented defensive linemen. (link)

LB Trace Ford

After signing with the Giants as an undrafted free agent, linebacker Trace Ford flashed during the preseason. His name was regularly mentioned, and he is a strong candidate for the practice squad. (link)

WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey

The battle at wide receiver was an intriguing one this summer, and solid players were bound to be cut. Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who made splash plays at times, was among the first to receive a pink slip. (link)

CB Dee Williams

Cornerback Dee Williams was the first player on the field nearly every day during training camp, but a few hiccups in coverage likely cost him. A solid special teams player, he may get a look for the practice squad. (link)

TE Greg Dulcich

In another surprising move, the Giants are parting ways with Greg Dulcich, who was their most productive tight end this summer. He made a strong run for a 53-man roster spot but was a victim of the numbers game. (link)

DL Elijah Chatman

In the biggest surprise of the day (so far), the Giants have released defensive lineman Elijah Chatman. The youngster pulled double duty this summer, also stepping in at fullback. (link)

DL Cory Durden

Nose tackle Cory Durden was signed to compete for a spot to back up Dexter Lawrence, and while he had a few nice preseason moments, he faced an uphill climb. In the end, it was too much to overcome. (link)

CB Tre Hawkins

In a somewhat surprising move, the Giants are waiving injured cornerback Tre Hawkins, who was seemingly a lock had he been healthy. (link)

S Makari Paige

Safety Makari Paige, an undrafted rookie, looked good at times throughout the preseason and made the decision difficult. Ultimately, the Giants passed and are likely to carry only three safeties on their initial 53-man roster. Paige is a candidate for the practice squad. (link)

S Raheem Layne

Many thought Raheem Layne would win the fourth safety spot after filling that role all summer, but a late groin injury may have cost him. (link)

RB Jonathan Ward

If Dante Miller wasn’t going to make the roster, veteran running back Jonathan Ward wasn’t going to, either. A late addition to the 90-man roster, Ward had solid moments throughout the preseason but lacked overall consistency. (link)

TE Jermaine Terry

The Giants have a cloudy picture at tight end, and the undrafted (and currently injured) Jermaine Terry didn’t really fit in. (link)

OL Jake Kubas

There were only so many spots available along the offensive line, and Jake Kubas stumbled a time or two during the preseason. The down summer ultimately led to his release, although he remains a candidate for the practice squad. (link)

LB Tomon Fox

Linebacker Tomon Fox, who joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent, stuck around for the better part of three seasons. However, the additions of rookie Abdul Carter and the signing of veteran Chauncey Golston made him expendable. (link)

RB Dante Miller

Running back Dante Miller did everything he could to earn a roster spot, but like DeVito, he was the odd man out in a numbers game. If he’s not claimed, he is a candidate to return to the practice squad. (link)

QB Tommy DeVito

It was always going to be a numbers game with quarterback Tommy DeVito, especially given the health of the quarterback room. A remarkable tale about a local kid who became the starting quarterback of the New York Giants comes to an expected end. (link)

S K’Von Wallace

Although veteran safety K’Von Wallace seemed to have the inside track on a 53-man roster spot due to his experience with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, the Giants thought differently. He officially had his contract terminated on Sunday.

CB TJ Moore to IR

Giants rookie defensive back TJ Moore was released from the hospital after undergoing surgery for a fractured femur on Sunday. He returned to team facilities “in good spirits” but was placed on injured reserve (IR).

CB O’Donnell Fortune

Undrafted rookie cornerback O’Donnell Fortune flashed at times this summer but was very inconsistent on a day-to-day basis. He played well against the Patriots on Thursday night in a last-ditch effort to win a roster spot, but it was too little, too late.

OL Jimmy Morrissey

Jimmy Morrissey was never able to climb the depth chart this summer and was considered a long shot to make the roster. He spent last season on the Giants’ practice squad and might be destined for that again in 2025.

WR Zach Pascal

Veteran wide receiver Zach Pascal was caught up in a large group vying for a few positions at the backend of the wide receiver depth chart. He made it clear he wanted to remain with the Giants but understood he might be waived. Either way, Pascal said, he will follow and root for Big Blue this season.

LB K.J. Cloyd

The Giants re-signed linebacker K.J. Cloyd in early August, and he played well during his second stint with the team, but the numbers at inside linebacker simply didn’t add up. Cloyd may be a practice squad candidate.

LB Dyontae Johnson

In our 53-man roster prediction, we briefly wavered and had Dyontae Johnson making the team, but walked that back in our final projection. Although he was healthy this summer, Johnson just never gained the traction he needed. (link)

WR Jordan Bly

Jordan Bly, like many of the team’s receivers, was caught up in a numbers game. He failed to stand out like so many others and was among the very first cuts. (link)

OL Jaison Williams

Jaison Williams, the rookie offensive lineman out of Youngstown State, never climbed the depth chart. He could be a candidate for the practice squad. (link)

WR Montrell Washington

There were flash moments for Montrell Washington this summer, but consistency was his issue. He was never able to string together plus-practices or in-game performances. In the end, that cost him. (link)
