A suspect in the fatal shooting of a White Plains man on New Year’s Eve in 2021 has been arrested.
Shawn McLaurin, 43, was arraigned Monday afternoon, July 13, in White Plains City Court, charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Shawn Jefferson.
Jefferson, 49, was shot multiple times at about 11:50 pm on Dec. 31, 2021, near his home on North Kensico Avenue. He was taken to White Plains Hospital, where he died about 40 minutes later.
Details of how McLaurin was tied to the shooting or how long he had been a suspect were not immediately available. He was arrested by White Plains detectives late Sunday night.
Pleas on felonies are not entered in local court. White Plains Judge Christopher Daniele ordered McLaurin held without bail at the Westchester County jail as bail cannot be set on a murder charge in local court. The case is currently being presented to a Westchester County grand jury and defense lawyer Anthony Mattesi told Assistant District Attorney Daniel Flecha that McLaurin would not be testifying.
Daniele scheduled McLaurin’s next court appearance for Friday, July 17.
