New York DMV unveils America 250 specialty license plate

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has unveiled a specialty license plate commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The DMV announced the new design Tuesday at Peebles Island State Park in Cohoes.

The plate features a red-and-blue gradient outline of the United States, blue and white stars, and the words “United States of America 250” across the bottom.

“We are delighted to offer this plate to the public as the nation proudly celebrates its 250th anniversary,” DMV Acting Commissioner Christian Jackstadt said during the announcement. “It is a great way for New Yorkers to display their love of country and express their appreciation for all America has to offer.”

How to get the new license plate

The commemorative plate is available now through the DMV website and at DMV offices statewide.

The plate is available only for passenger vehicles.

How much does the plate cost?

The specialty plate costs $60 when first purchased.

Drivers also will pay an annual renewal fee of $31.25, in addition to regular vehicle registration renewal fees.

Can the plate be personalized?

Yes. Drivers can customize the plate with a combination of letters and numbers, up to six characters, for an additional fee.
