The closure comes weeks after the restaurant was issued two critical and 5 non-critical violations from the Broome County Health Department on July 30.

The critical violations were issued for the following:

The restaurant received the same violations in March and April, according to county restaurant inspection records.

In March 2023, Mooney’s was shut down by the health department for a broken water heater, but reopened a few days later.

The Johnson City Mooney’s restaurant is one of several in the regional chain. Other New York locations listed on the Mooney’s website include Horseheads, Kenmore, Depew, Lancaster, Corning and Tonawanda. There is also a restaurant in Athens, Pennsylvania.

The reason for the closure has not been announced. As of noon Aug. 14, Mooney’s owner Kevin McFall had not yet returned a request for comment.
