Two children from Allegany County who had been missing since May in an alleged case of non-custodial interference were located Aug. 11 living in a shed with their mother in Trenton, Georgia by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities in Georgia arrested Nicole A. Koschuk, 42, on an active Wyoming County, New York arrest warrant for first-degree custodial interference.
Amara Koschuk, 6, and Lincoln R. Koschuk, 4, were missing from their home in Angelica since May 10, according to regional and national missing children organizations.
Amity-based New York State Police said in a May 16 news release that investigators were seeking the public’s help in locating the pair. Troopers released descriptions and photos of the children and their mother, who police said they suspected of having her kids.
New York State Police said Amara and Lincoln were found in a healthy condition. New York officials said the siblings were turned over to the Dade County (Georgia) Department of Family and Children’s Services, until they can be returned to their legal custodian in Angelica.
Nicole Koschuk was turned over to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office where she is awaiting extradition back to New York state.
In New York, police said an investigation is ongoing into people who may have assisted Koschuk.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of Amity are working with multiple law enforcement and social services agencies, troopers said..
