Memorial Day weekend rain could soak much of New York. See forecast

Widespread rain is expected to affect parts of New York during Memorial Day weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters say the wettest and most consistent rain is expected to arrive late Friday, May 22, and continue through Saturday, May 23, with additional scattered showers possible Sunday and Memorial Day.

“This is still an unsettled period,” National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon said. “There will be plenty of rain, but hopefully we will have some dry periods during the holiday weekend.”

National Weather Service also warned that forecast conditions could shift as the weekend approaches.

Saturday Expected To Be The Wettest Day

Much of the state is expected to see widespread showers Saturday, with Western New York likely to experience steady soaking rain throughout the day.

Forecasters say additional intermittent showers are possible Sunday, especially across upstate regions.

AccuWeather issued a similar national forecast, predicting periods of heavy rain and downpours across much of the eastern United States over the holiday weekend.

Dry Periods Still Possible Memorial Day

Despite the soggy outlook, forecasters say New Yorkers should still expect some breaks in the rain during the three-day weekend.

A chance of showers remains in the forecast for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, but several regions could also see stretches of dry weather.

Temperatures Expected To Warm Up

Temperatures are expected to gradually rebound through the weekend despite the rain.

High temperatures across much of New York are forecast to reach the low 60s Saturday before climbing into the mid- to upper 70s Sunday and Monday.

The New York City area is expected to stay cooler, with highs in the mid-50s Saturday, around 60 Sunday and the low 70s Monday.
