Man thrown onto shore in Canandaigua Lake boat crash, suffers life-threatening injuries

A man suffered life-threatening injuries after a boat crash on Canandaigua Lake over the weekend, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred on the eastern shore of Canandaigua Lake — roughly halfway down the lake — near 296 East Lake Road in Middlesex, Yates County, just before 8 p.m. Saturday, deputies said. Witnesses told police that the boat collided with the shoreline and the impact threw the driver, Benjamin Cramer, off the boat and onto the shore, deputies said.

Cramer suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and witnesses were treating him when first responders arrived at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Cramer was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital, deputies said. He was listed in guarded condition at Strong on Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Deputies are investigating, to determine what caused the crash.
