Storm impact
The storms drenched the region during the predawn hours on Sunday, June 22, leaving thousands of county residents without power as wind gusts of up to 100 mph downed trees and power lines while between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of teeming rain prompted a National Weather Service Flash Flood Warning.
The alert covered Madison County towns including Hamilton, Morrisville, Nelson, Cazenovia, Brookfield, Waterville, Lebanon, Georgetown and Earlville, where “life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams…was imminent or already occurring.”
In the storm’s aftermath, Madison County reported the hardest hit areas to include the city of Oneida, village of Canastota, and the towns of Lincoln, Eaton, Madison, and Nelson. 911 operators received over 900 calls from the county on Sunday morning, according to a statement announcing the SBA loans.
