New York Jets defender and special teamer Kris Boyd, who was shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning outside a Midtown restaurant, has provided a personal update as he recovers from the incident.
Boyd has indicated his health is improving after initially being listed in critical condition after being shot in the stomach.
Boyd shared this message to social media:
The bullet reportedly ended up in his lung, according to ABC News. He has since had it removed.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on Aug. 18 with a shoulder injury.
New York head coach Aaron Glenn provided a positive reaction to Boyd’s update as well.
“That’s what eases my mind is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said via video conference. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he’ll walk away from this just fine.”
“Once I heard about the situation, the first thing I thought about was he just had a kid,” Glenn added. “I’m thinking about is wife. I’m thinking about his kid. I want to make sure that he’s OK. That’s the only thing that really went through my mind. And anybody else that was involved, make sure those guys are OK.”
While an image of the suspected shooter has been revealed, an arrest has not yet been made.
Jets Wire will continue to provide updates as information is made available.
