Kingston chiropractor sentenced for possessing child sex abuse material

KINGSTON – A Kingston chiropractor was sentenced Dec. 12 to 7 1/3 to 20 years in state prison for possessing and promoting a sexual performance by a child.

The Ulster County District Attorney’s office announced the sentence for Dr. John Boyle, 34, by visiting Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell.

Boyle previously pleaded guilty to promoting a sexual performance by a child, promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, all felonies.

The charges were a result of a lengthy investigation by state police.

Boyle was found in possession of thousands of images and videos containing child sexual abuse material. He also shared several of the images via text message, Session and Telegram with his wife and additional unknown parties, according to authorities.

It remains unknown who the children are, where they are from, who originated the images and videos, and where they were made. The district attorney’s office said it also does not know how old the images are or the present ages of those depicted in them.

“Dr. John Boyle was a fraud on the community in character,” Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji said in a statement released by his office. “He presented a facade; people accepted and trusted him, believing that what they saw about him was true, only to be shattered by the revelation of his dark existence.”

“He is deeply remorseful and accepted responsibility for his actions,” Boyle’s attorney, Vincent Scala, said on Dec. 16. “He and I hope people will see him in a fuller light, and not just this single criminal act. I hope people take into account his awful upbringing, and how he overcame numerous obstacles to become a chiropractor. He is much more than this one act.”

Boyle will have to register as a sex offender prior to being released from prison.
