Jets rookie TE Kenyon Sadiq: 'Possibilities are endless' for usage

New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey was not afraid to take a Best Player Available (BPA) approach during the 2026 NFL Draft.

So when Mougey came on the clock for a second time at No. 16 overall in Round 1, he didn’t hesitate to take former Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq. The Jets drafted Sadiq despite using a second-round pick on tight end Mason Taylor a year ago.

“We’re going to be able to dictate as far as the defense is concerned … he brings that value to us,” head coach Aaron Glenn said of Sadiq. “There’s so many different positions he can play for us, that’s going to be able for us to open up the offense. Frank has a really good vision for this player. I’m looking good to going against this player during training camp. It will be fun.”

Selecting Sadiq wasn’t an indictment of Taylor’s rookie season. Taylor was very productive for a lifeless Jets offense in 2025, recording 44 receptions for 369 yards and a touchdown. The value on drafting Sadiq, a blue-chip prospect, was simply too good to pass up.

Sadiq recently participated at Jets rookie minicamp. He was asked about teaming up with Taylor in the position room. Sadiq said the possibilities are endless, which is an accurate statement.

“He [Mason Taylor] does a lot of things really well, in the run game and pass game,” Sadiq said about complementing Taylor. “I think the possibilities are endless. Really, they [the coaching staff] can do whatever they want [with us]. It’s unique and kinda just opens up possibilities for everyone.”

Heavier tight end packages have become a league-wide trend since Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams started running more 12 and 13 personnel. The Jets have options to duplicate those looks, with Sadiq,

Taylor, and Jeremy Ruckert in the tight end room. Sadiq and Taylor should form an exciting duo this season.
