The New York Giants recently reached an agreement with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on a one-year deal. It is a veteran salary benefit (VSB) contract worth $1.3 million with no guarantees. The cap hit is listed at $1.08 million.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic has revealed that this is a very team-friendly deal with three injury-waiver clauses.
There is no mention of any bonus money being paid upfront to Beckham, who will not get paid unless he makes the Giants’ 53-man roster at the end of training camp in August.
If Beckham incurs any of the three injuries covered by the waivers, the Giants are free and clear financially from OBJ. They are hoping things don’t come to that, naturally.
The upside is that Beckham has a successful second act with Big Blue and becomes both a contributor to the offense as well as part of their veteran leadership group.
