Injury update for New York Jets' first-round rookie Kenyon Sadiq

The New York Jets made three first-round picks at the 2026 NFL Draft.

As spring practices begin, only two of them are on the field at OTAs.

The pair of healthy top rookies are edge defender David Bailey and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq is not taking part in workouts.

On Thursday, New York head coach Aaron Glenn announced that Sadiq will sit out OTAs and potentially until training camp because of a hernia. Per Glenn, Sadiq had a minor surgery to repair the issue.

“It’s something that he dealt with, and we knew about it going into his last year of college, and he dealt with it during rookie minicamp,” Glenn said.

The No. 16 overall selection at the 2026 draft missing spring practices is a bummer for the team. However, the more intensive and consistent practices for the Jets will come during training camp so making sure Sadiq is healthy during the summer is the smart decision.

Assuming Sadiq does not miss any extensive time during training camp, the tight end will still have a chance make an impact on the Jets’ new offense in 2026 led by quarterback Geno Smith.
