A 61-year-old hiker from Nyack was rescued by helicopter from New York’s tallest mountain after suffering a broken arm while hiking in the Adirondacks.
New York State Police flew to the injured hiker on Mount Marcy shortly after 1 p.m. July 7, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
As the helicopter hovered over Mount Marcy, a forest ranger was lowered to the hiker’s location. The ranger splinted the hiker’s broken arm and secured victim in a rescue harness.
Another ranger hoisted the hiker into the helicopter, and a New York State Police pilot flew the patient to a hospital.
After the helicopter departed, the ranger on the ground hiked off Mount Marcy with the remaining members of the hiking party.
The rescue concluded about 8 p.m.
