The town of Henrietta is installing its first bike boulevard.
The move comes in the context of work across the region to evolve the road experience for cyclists and motorists, such as Rochester’s Bicycle Boulevard Plan.
What is a bike boulevard?
A bike boulevard is a marked bike route through residential streets for bicyclists to avoid heavy traffic and main roads.
In Henrietta, cyclists have access to two new boulevards that lead to the town’s library, recreation center and some schools. The two boulevards are located near Hollybrook Road and Wedgewood Park.
Cyclists can access the Hollybrook Bike Boulevard from East Henrietta Road and Pinnacle Road. Wedgewood Bike Boulevard can be accessed from Antoinette Drive and Calkins Road.
In celebration of welcoming the new boulevards, members of the Henrietta Town Board invite cyclists of all ages at 1 p.m. April 11 for an inaugural hour ride on the Wedgewood Park Bike Boulevard.
Cyclists interested in participating can meet at the Henrietta Town Hall with a bike and a helmet.
