The New York Giants will have a new starting kicker this year after parting ways with veteran Graham Gano during the offseason, after six years.
Gano, 39, began his Giants’ career in 2020 after 10 seasons in the NFL with Carolina and Washington. His first three seasons in Blue were successful ones. The last three were interrupted by various injuries, causing the Giants to be caught short at kicker several times.
In 2023, Gano played in just eight games, succumbing to a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve (IR). He played in just 15 games over the next two years with groin and hamstring issues.
This offseason, with a new head coach (John Harbaugh) and special teams coordinator (Chris Horton) in tow, changes to the specialists were in order. Gano was released, and the Giants will be choosing a new kicker — either incumbent Ben Sauls or undrafted rookie free agent Dominic Zvada.
Gano’s NFL career is likely over, and he may feel he has unfinished business with the Giants. He recently posted the following on his social media account:
Gano set several franchise records during his time with Big Blue, such as field goals over 50 yards (26), consecutive field goals made (37), and career field goal percentage (87.4 percent).
